Training Programs

We believe that training is the first key to the success of any Health and Safety Program. The Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations requires all supervisors and workers in Ontario to be trained in WHMIS, fall protection and must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations that apply to the work.

If you have an critical injury or death in the workplace, one of the first items that an employer will be asked to produce by the MOL is the workers record of training (ROT), an employer must be able to produce current record of training. If an employee told you they have been trained while working for another contractor but it was several years ago, you must re-train that employee to ensure proper current training and proof of it. Training should be an on going program within any organization. WHMIS is an annual review, Propane training must be updated every 3 years, First Aid must also be updated every 3 years, we recommend that other records of training be current within 3 years. On several construction projects, health and safety is completely overlooked in the interest of the bottom line. However it has been proven by several companies; once safety is incorporated into the everyday schedule, and mindset of management, supervisor and the worker, associated costs will be reduced, actually making you money! Workers will work to the level that others are, and to a level that they perceive they are expected to.

This is why training is so important, workers and supervisors are trained to know exactly what is expected of them according to the OHSA. And with the recent amendments to the criminal code of Canada made under Bill C-45, if you neglect safety and cut corners to save a buck, endangering the lives of workers, criminal charges are a possibility. BuildSafe - Construction Safety Services Inc. offers regularly scheduled courses in Cambridge, Hamilton & Mississauga, we will also run specific courses at a time and place convenient for the client (southern Ontario). In order to ensure effective training, there is a quiz for all courses. Upon successful completion of the training, we will issue a wallet card and a record of training (ROT) verifying successful completion by the participants. Contractors with more than 8* workers to be trained, can schedule a specific time and place for training.
