Fall Protection Training

Fall Protection regulations were amended effective June of 2002, to require any worker on a construction site exposed to a fall hazard, to receive proper fall protection training. This includes 100% of all personnel who enter a construction site.

The reason for fall protection training is simple; falls are the single largest contributor to construction fatalities (deaths). Therefore more training should reduce the number of construction workers getting killed due to falls.

Fall protection program is comprised of 2 parts:

  1. Fall Prevention
  2. Fall Arrest

Fall Prevention is just what the term implies, we explore different ways workers are falling, and discuss basic safety procedures on how to prevent these types of falls. Examples of fall prevention includes; proper use of ladders, proper scaffold erection, properly built guardrails, floor covers, working from scissor lifts and travel restraint procedures.

Fall Arrest refers to the wearing of a harness, we discuss proper fitting procedures, the different types equipment used, and all participants must demonstrate they can properly adjust and wear a harness.
